A buyer's intermediary is sometimes retained for a monthly fee to seek acquisition candidates for the buyer. This fee is offset against the commission earned on the ultimate purchase.

Another common arrangement is that a commission is only paid upon the closing of a purchase transaction. Like in real estate sales, the seller's brokers will usually consider splitting their commission with the broker for the buyer, resulting in no additional cost to the buyer.
